Your 4-day travel guide
Como isn't just a lake, it's a feeling. Imagine waking to the gentle lapping of water against ancient stone walls, the scent of espresso and fresh-baked focaccia drifting from narrow alleyways. This is a city where every cobblestone tells a story, from Roman foundations to Renaissance palazzos. For a couple, it's pure magic: you'll share gelato on sun-drenched piazzas, discover hidden courtyards draped in wisteria, and take lazy boat rides where the Alps seem to rise straight from the water. Forget rushing, here you'll learn the art of 'il dolce far niente'—the sweetness of doing nothing—together. Get ready to fall in love with Italy all over again, one perfect pasta dish and lakeside vista at a time.

When to Go
The ideal time to visit Como is from April to June and September to October. Spring (April-June) offers mild temperatures, blooming flowers, and fewer crowds than peak summer. September and October provide pleasant weather, autumn colors in the surrounding hills, and the water is still warm enough for boat rides. July and August can be hot and crowded with both Italian and international tourists. Winter (November-March) is quieter but cooler, with some attractions having reduced hours, though the Christmas season brings festive markets and decorations.
Como moves at a leisurely pace, reflecting its lakeside setting. Meals are important social occasions, so don't rush through them. The passeggiata (evening stroll) is a cherished tradition, especially along the lakefront. While the city welcomes tourists, it remains very much a working Italian town with its own rhythms. Dress is generally smart-casual, especially for dinner. Como has a strong sense of local pride, particularly regarding its silk heritage and native son Alessandro Volta. The relationship with the lake defines daily life, from the morning fish market to evening views. Remember that shops and some restaurants may close on Sundays and Monday mornings.
